Dutch Trance produce and DJ Armin van Buuren was born in Leiden, on Christmas Day 1976. In 2007, 08, 09 and 10, he was the number one DJ in DJ Magazine’s Annual Top 100 most popular DJs. He is to the first ever to receive such recognition four years running.

He radio show, “A State of Trance,” has been on the air since 2001 and has over 30 million weekly listeners in across 40 countries, which would make it the most listened to radio show in the world and his 2008 studio album “Imagine” shot start to number 1 on the Dutch Album Chart, yet another first for van Burren.

Since the beginning of his career, Van Buuren had worked alone out of his own studio until the success of his third album “Imagine.” Since 2008, he has been working with Benno de Goeij of Rank on a variety of solo productions and remixes. He is famous for his annual “Year Mix” that blends clips and custom mashups for the years’ most popular trance tracks that consists of about 85 individual released compiled in to a 2-hour double CD release. Each mix takes several months to compile including thousands of digital audit edits and audio plugins.

With over a decade and a half as a DJ, van Buuren has released numerous tracks with many different labels he has played in over 25 countries, is on the main stage at many of the big summer festivals and is a regular performer at Passion, Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Slinky and the Ministry of Sound.

His first major success was “Blue Fear” with Cyber Records at the age of 19 became the “Euro Trance blueprint” that made it in to the UK Chart. “Communication,” also with Cyber Records had a huge impact on Spain, Ibiza in particular in the summer of 1999. After signing with AM PM Records, “Communication: entered the UK Chart at #18 in 2000.

Van Buuren’s DJ career began while studying law at club Nexus in Leiden where he played sets as long as seven hours up to four times a week during school holidays. That was just good practice for his record-breaking 12 and a half hour set at Dancetheater in The Hague His career exploded on to the international scene when he met Dave Lewis who introduced van Buuren as a DJ in the UK and USA. Shortly after, he entered DJ Magazine’s top 100 in November 2001 at #27.

In 2000, van Buuren managed to find a balance between progressive electro, minimal techno and commercial pop trance music styles and his first compilation album, “A State of Trance” (not his radio show), sold more than 10,000 copies. His second album, “Basic Instinct” featured a new track entitled “Perpetuous Dreamer – The Sound of Goodbye.” The track entered the Dutch charts in June 2001 at number 26. Later in the year, the track hit #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. The third album,” In Motion” was released 6 August 2001. This album contained the real trance sound and was very popular in the United States. A fourth album, “Transparence,” followed in 2002.

In 2003, he worked with such artists such as DJ Seth Alan Fannin throughout a global tour on Dance Revolution in Europe, selling out crowds of 20,000 people in his home country, the Netherlands, and released his debut studio album, “76,” named after the year of his birth - 1976. On 8 August 2005 he released his second album, “Shivers,” created with artists such as Pakistani American singer Nadia Ali, English singer Justine Suissa and American trance duo Gabriel & Dresden.

On 17 April 2008, van Buuren released his third studio album, Imagine. It features collaboration with singers such as Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation and Jacqueline Govaert of Krezip. The album debuted at number one on the Dutch Albums Chart.

On 23 June 2010 it was announced that van Buuren's fourth studio album, Mirage would be released on 10 September. One of the confirmed tracks from the album is collaboration with English singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor called “Not Giving up on Love,” which will be released as a single from Bextor's forthcoming album, “Straight to the Heart.” The first single from his fourth album, entitled “Full Focus” was released through the iTunes Store on 24 June at midnight. The song peaked at number sixty in the Netherlands.

To mark the 10 year anniversary and 500th episode of his weekly radio show, Van Buuren performed at five shows across five continents in five weeks. The first show was held on 19 March 2011 in Johannesburg, South Africa at the MTN Expo Center alongside Blake Jarrell, Protoculture, Lange, Leon Bolier, and Jorn van Deynhoven were performers with over 20,000 people in attendance. The second show at Miami's Ultra Music Festival on 27 March included Marcus Schossow, Alex M.O.R.P.H., Cosmic Gate, Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, ATB, and Sander van Doorn. Den Bosch in The Netherlands followed with the biggest event of 2011. Accompanied by more than 30 DJ's from countries all over the world, Armin brought together over 30,000 people in one long night of trance music with DJs Markus Schulz, Gareth Emery, Above & Beyond, Paul Oakenfold and Sean Tyas in attendance. The event was radio broadcasted live from Den Bosch by van Buuren himself to over 30 countries as well as many of the DJ's using their sets as their live weekly or monthly podcast. The final show was held in Sydney, Australia marking the fifth show of the tour. It was held on 16 April at Acer Arena in Olympic Park and was a sold out event weeks before the night. Shogun, Australia's own tyDi, Menno de Jong, Aly & Fila, Alex M.O.R.P.H. and of course Van Buuren were the lineup where Armin played for a 3 hour set in celebration of this epic 5 week tour.
