Avril Lavigne was born on September 27 1984 in the Belleville, Canada. The Canadian singer-songwriter, fashion designer and actress started singing when was two years old at church with her mother Judith-Rosanne. This all came about after she actually heard her two-year-old daughter sing the popular song ‘Jesus Loves Me’ in Church. As a matter of fact, many people at that time actually were in love with her singing and therefore begun encouraging her to continue to sing.

Avril Lavigne actually has one elder brother Mathew and a sister Michelle. The whole family actually moved to Napanee, Ontario population five thousand when she was five years old. She was a very stubborn child and sent out of class regularly due to misconduct. Still, her singing was supported by her parents and had plenty of zeal when it came to singing and playing instruments in the basement studio her father created for her.

In 1998, Lavigne won a contest to perform with Canadian singer Shania Twain in Ottawa before an audience of twenty thousand people. The two actually sang a duet of “What made you say that.” The performance is talked about today. Moreover, local folk singer Stephen Medd noted Lavigne and invited her to contribute vocals to his 1999 album “Quinte Spirit,” and again in 2000 “My Window to You.” She provided vocals for “Touch the Sky” in 1999 “Two rivers” and “Temple of Life” which was his next album.

Furthermore, by December 1999, Cliff Fabri, who would become her first professional manager, actually discovered Lavigne and this as one may say was a very necessary discovery. Fabri had VHS tapes of Lavigne’s basement karaoke performances were sent to industry executives who liked what they saw and arranged meetings. Mark Jowett, co-founder of the management firm “Nettwerk” saw one such video, arranged for Lavigne to work with Peter Zizzo of New York in the summer of 2000, and later, attracted the attention of Arista Records. Lavigne would go on to become a top selling artist releasing four albums to date that have collectively sold morethan 10.25 million copies in the USA and over 30 million copies worldwide and to be recognized as the number 10 artist on the “Best of 2000s” charts and the 28th best overall act of the decade. Ken Krongard invited the head of Arista Records, Antonio L.A Reid in November 2000 to listen to Lavigne sing in Peter Zizzo’s Manhattan Studio. Her fifteen minutes performance won her a $1.25 million dollar record deal for two albums with a $900,000 publishing advance. With her parent’s blessing, she dropped out of high school to focus on her career and released her debut album “Let Go,” in June 2002. The album skated to the top of the charts, holding firm at number two on the US Billboard 200 while taking the top spot in Australia, Canada and the UK. The debut and lead single “Complicated” soared as well, peaking at number on in Australia, and number two in the USA and Canada. It was number 83 on the Hot 100 Singles of the Decade. Subsequent singles “Sk8er Boi” and “I’m with you” enjoyed similar success and went on to win a host of awards including “Best New Artist” for “Complicated” music video, four out of six Juno award nominations, eight Grammy nominations and a World Music Award for “World’s Best Selling Canadian Singer.”

Her second studio album, “Under My Skin” was released in May 2004 and debuted at Number one in Australia, Mexico, Japan, UK and USA and has sold over 10 million copies to date. She promoted the album with a twenty-one city mall tour of the USA and Canada before embarking on her first world tour, the “Bonez Tour” that lasted to the end of 2005.

The album’s single “Don’t Tell me” made in to the Top Ten around the world as did the album’s lead single “My Happy Ending.” The third and fourth singles, “Nobody’s Home,” and “He Wasn’t” reached the Top 40 in the UK and Australia. This album won two World Music Awards in 2004 for “World’s Best Pop/Rock Artist” and again for “World’s Best Selling Canadian Artist” as well as wining nominations in every MTV Award show around the world.

Her third album, “The Best Damn Thing,” was released in April 2007 promoted with a tour, “The Best Damned Thing.” The lead single, “Girlfriend” topped the Billboard Hot 100 and the album topped the Billboard 200. The single was a worldwide hit and rerecorded in seven different languages and was the most downloaded track of 2007 (7.3 million downloads). The second single “When You’re Gone” and third single “Hot” enjoyed similar success, charting around the world as the album went on to sell over 5 million copies across the globe. Lavigne also won every award she was nominated for: Two World Music Awards, Two MTV Europe Music Awards, and a Teen Choice Award.

Less than a month after her second tour she began recording her next album with the song “Black Star” to help promote her fragrance by the same name. By mid-2009, nine of the album’s tracks including “Fine,” “Everybody Hurts.” and "Darlin" were recorded. The album is a return to her older, acoustic style except for the lead single “What the hell.” The release of the album “Goodbye Lullaby” was pushed back repeatedly due to the record company and was finally released on 8 march 2011 with "What the Hell", make its premier on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve on 31 December 2010.
