Green Day mp3
Joining the punk rock scene in 1987 a band called “Sweet Children” consisted of Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt which gave its first performance “Rod’s Pit” in Vallejo, California. In 1988 the band started working with Sean Huges, who left the band shortly after, and John Kiffmeyer also known as Al Sobrante. After signing with Larry Livemore, owner of “Lookout! Records,” the band released its first EP “1,000 hours”. Before its release the band dropped the name “Sweet Children” to avoid confusion with another band, “Sweet Baby”, taking on “Green Day”. In early 1990, their first album “39/Smooth” was released and two EPs were recorded later that year, “Slappy” and “Sweet Children.” “Sweet Children” included older songs. In 1991, “Lookout! Records” released “1039/Smooth out Slappy Hours” a collection of “Slappy” and “1000 hours”. At that time, “Tre Cool” replaced John Kiffmeyer as the band’s drummer. In 1992 and 1993 the band toured including performances in Europe. While releasing their second studio album “Kerplunk” which was a huge success selling about 50,000 copies in the US. The album’s success led to the band signing with “Reprise Records”. Their first album with “Reprise Records,” “Dookie” was released in February, 1994.
“Dookie” was a great commercial success also thanks to excessive airplay by M.T.V. That year Green Day went on a nationwide tour, which included a performance at Boston Esplande where things got out of hand, and their performance was cut to seven songs. Their appearance at Woodstock 1994 gained them even more popularity and in 1995 “Dookie” won the Grammy for best Alternative Album. In 1995 a single for the “Angus” soundtrack was released called “J.A.R”. The single hit the top of the charts and shortly after their Fourth album, “Insomniac”, was released.
“Nimrod” their fifth album hit the stores in October, 1997 which provided a wider variety of music such as pop-punk, surf rock, ska and even a ballad. The video of “Good Riddance” from this album won the band an M.T.V award for Best Alternative Video. The album was promoted with a tour in 1997 and 1998. After a three year gap their sixth album “Warning” was released following the same music style as “Nimrod” but wasn’t as successful as their previous albums as it only reached gold status whereas all their previous albums had been certified at least double platinum. In order to promote the album Green Day took part in the “Warped Tour” and set off on an independent tour. The band, however, won eight awards at the M.T.V. California Music Awards. Two collection albums, “International Superhits!” and “International Supervideos!” which sold well and “Shenanigans”, followed. In 2002 the band toured alongside “Blink-182”. The tour was documented on the DVD “Riding with Boys in Vans”.
In 2004 ‘American Idiot” was released and debuted at number 1 on the charts. the album won a Grammy for Best Rock Album and also won 7 M.T.V. awards. Throughout 2005 the band toured promoting the album with more than 150 venues. Two concerts at the “Milton Keys” in England were released as a live CD and DVD called, “Bullet in a Bible”. In 2006 the band won a People’s Choice Award for Record of the Year for the album “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”. In September 2006, Green Day collaborated with U2 and producer Rick Rubin to record the song “The Saints are Coming”, originally recorded by “the Skids” , to benefit “Music Raising”, an organization that helps raise money for musicians' instruments lost during Hurricane Katrina. Green Day released a cover of the John Lennon song “Working Class Hero” for the album Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur. The band also appeared in a cameo role in “The Simpsons Movie” where they perform the show’s theme song.
Before the release of “21st Century Breakdown” in 2009 Green Day worked on some smaller projects including an album called “Stop Drop and Roll” under the band name “Foxboro Hot Tubs” . “21st Century Breakdown” was Green Day’s best chart performance hitting number 1 in fourteen countries. From July 2009 until early 2010 the band toured around the world starting in California, which was their first live performance in three years. During that time in 2009 the band in cooperation with director Michael Mayer and many cast and crew members of the musical Spring Awakening created a stage version of the album “American Idiot”. “American Idiot: The Musical” opened in Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September 2009 and moved to Broadway in April 2010. Its critics have ranged from mixed to positive and the musical has been nominated for a number of Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Scenic Design. It was also nominated for a number of Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
On March 22, 2011 their live CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray called “Awesome as Fuck” was released. This album includes recordings from live performances.
Green Days’ duration on the music scene with great hits has proved their great talent which hopefully will continue to enrich the music scene for a long time still. And those who simply can’t get enough of Green Day can find members of the band in other projects such as Billie Joe Armstrong’s “Pinhead Gunpowder” with back up guitarist Jason White, “The Frustrators” with Mike Dirnt at bass, “The network” where all three members play under fake stage names and of course the “Foxboro Hot Tubs”.
