Kylie was born on 28 May 1968 as the eldest of three children. She was born in Melbourne and her sister, Danni Minogue is already a rock singer and judge on X-factor. Her brother is working as a camera operator for a private news channel in Australia. She started her career as child star on television at the age of eleven. She made a demo tape for the “Young Talent Show” and gave one performance but was not casted for the show. It was only in 1986 when she won the part of Charlene Mitchell in the soap opera “Neighbors” that gained huge popularity in United Kingdom.
She performed a duet song at a benefit concert with fellow “Neighbors” cast members and attracted the attention of Mushroom records, and sign with them in 1987. Her first single, “Locomotion” dominated the Australian charts, was the highest selling single of the 1980s selling over 200,000 copies, and won the ARIA award for the year’s highest selling single. Minogue won her second consecutive ARIA Award for “I Should Be So Lucky” in same category and her self-titled debut album spent more than a year on the British charts. In 1988, she left the Neighbors so that she can concentrate on her musical career.
Kylie’s follow up album was also a great success in British and other countries but failed to make headway in North America. “Enjoy Yourself,” released in 1989 . She embarked on her first tour the “Enjoy Yourself Tour” and tried her hand at acting. Her first movie “The Delinquents” opened in London and was poorly received by critics in both the UK and Australia.
In 1990, “Rhythm of Love,” her third album was released and after that she started to take complete control of her music and career, shedding her “girl next door” image. Her single, “Better the Devil You Know,” was the turning point and milestone in her career, marking her as “the hottest, hippest dance act on the scene.” Her British popularity saw her performance at the John Lenon Tribute Concert wow audiences and the media alike. In 1991, she released her fourth album, “Let’s Get to It” which was successful enough with its singles “If You Were with Me Now” and “Give Me Just a Little More Time” reaching number four and two on the UK singles charts. Having completed her contract, she declined to new it, citing creative differences between her and management.
Signing with Deconstruction Records was a move the critics claimed would begin a new phase of her career. But her 1994 album, “Kylie Minogue” received mixed reviews despiste the singles “Put Yourself in My Place” and “Where is the Feeling” reaching the British Top 20, and the album reaching number 4. Her photo was published in as the cover photo in an Australia’s Who Magazine as one of the” Top 30 Most Beautiful People in the World,” which won her a role in the film “Street Fighter”, opposite Jean-Claude Van Damme. The film’s moderate success but again her acting was again rated as sub-par.
In 1995, she collaborated with fellow Australian artist Nick Cave on “Where the Wild Roses Grow and the brooding ballad single received charted in several European countries and reached number 2 on the Australian singles chart before going on to win two ARIA awards for “Song of the Year and “Best Pop Release.”
Unfortunately, international her star plummeted after the lackluster performance of her 1997 album “Impossible Princess” where creative inspired by Stephane Sednaoui did little to help her from being voted as the “worst-dressed person, worst singer and second-most very horrible thing—after spiders.” But nationally, the title single peaked at number 4 on the charts andwas on the charts for 35 weeks.
Parting ways with Deconstruction records, she signed with Parlophone Records in 1999 to reestablish her career and stardom. Her new label believed that her fall from musical grace was caused by Deconstruction, who were unable to tap in to her talent. Her 2000 Album, “Light Years” was a disco influenced collection of dance in an exaggerated form to make it fun. The critics loved it and the Singles “Spinning Around” and “On a Night Like This” reached number 1 in Australia and Number 2 in the UK respectively. Her concert tour of Australia and the UK was a sold out successes. The release of the 2001 album “Fever” saw it rise to number 1 in Australia, to win ARIA awards in four different categories and two Brit awards with sales exceeding 8 million copies across the globe.
In 2003, her next album Body Language was released. This album received very good reviews even though sales were lower than anticipated, the lead single “Slow” was a number one hit in the UK and Australia and was nominated for the “Best Dance Recording” Grammy award.
She released her second biggest album in 2004, titled “Ultimate Kylie.” After this album, she was nominated for the fourth consecutive time for the category of Best dance Recording. In 2005, she opened the “Kylie: The Exhibition” exhibition of her career, featuring photos and costumes, before going on tour. It was after the tour and she had returned to Melbourne was she diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of 2005.
In the year of 2006, she resumed her tour Showgirl with a live performance in Sydney. She performed energetically but small breaks were introduced to preserve her health and energy and prevent exhaustion that still took its toll, cancelling a planned appearance at a U2 concert. She spent Christmas with family before continuing with the European leg of her tour. It was only after her relationship with Olivier Martinez ended that she released “X” her tenth studio and her comeback album. “X” was nominated for 2009 Grammy Awards for Best Electronic/ Dance Album.
In the year of 2007, she performed in Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway and in the Final episode of The X Factor. Later it was announced that she was among those people who were honored by Queen Elizabeth’s New Honor’s List. In July 2008, she officially received the OBE award from Prince of Wales. In May 2008, she was awarded as the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In July 2008, she was named the “Best Loved Celebrity” by a UK tabloid for her struggle against breast cancer. Moreover, at the BRIT Awards that year, won the “Best International Female Solo Artist” award.
Kylie’s eleventh album, “Aphrodite” was released in Japan on 30 June 2010 with a worldwide release in July. On 3 June 2010, she officially hosted inaugural AmfAR Gala organized for honoring Jean Paul Gaultier. She made an appearance on BBCI’s show and confirmed that she is British resident and that she will tour in 2011.
