Lily Rose Beatrice Allen was born on May 2, 1985 to Keith Allen and Alison Owen in Hammersmith, west London. Her siblings are Sarah, Alfie and Rebecca, along with a number of half-siblings. She grew up going to thirteen schools and in 1988, she was seen on The Comic Strip Presents, in the episode The Yob. At eleven, Allen was given lunchtime singing lessons by Rachel Santesso, resulting in her first single In The Bleak Mindwinter. She then played in a production The Railway Children at Cavendish all-girl Christian school. Then in 1998, Allen appeared in the film Elizabeth and dropped out of school at the age of fifteen.

In 2002 Allen found her first manager George Lamb, and signed to London Records, but unfortunately her folk songs were not released. Two years later Lamb introduced Allen to the production duo Future Cut, then in 2005 Regal Recordings signed Allen.

In November 2005 Allen started posting demos on MySpace account, resulting in a rushed-released of 500 limited edition 7” vinyl single of LDN. My First Mixtape and My Second Mixtape was produced by Allen, which gained many interests including from The Observer Music Monthly (OMM).

OMM wrote an article about Allen in MySpace in March 2006, giving her major mainstream coverage two months later. Allen then worked with producers Greg Kurstin and Mark Ronson. In 2008 Allen was nominated in the NME Award for Best Band Blog, being the fifth most popular musical act, and having 448,000 MySpace friends as of February 9, 2009.

On July 3, 2006, Alright, Still was released as limited-edition 12’ vinyl in the UK, and was Allen’s first debut album. Then on July 17, 2006 the full CD was released in the UK and through Europe. Her single Littlest Things produced by Mark Ronson earned him a 2008 Grammy Award, and the Smile single in September 2006 was available in the US as a version of iTunes Store. And in January 2007 Allen did promotional ads as Discover and Download artist of the month for MTV.

On January 28, 2007 Allen made history by taking up all top 10 spots in the Official UK Albums chart. The album Alright, Still was released on January 30, 2007 in the U.S., and she won a 2008 BMI songwriter Award. And on March 5, 2007, Alfie single was released. The album sold over 960,000 copies in the UK and 520,000 in the U.S. in January 2009.

In February 2009 the album It’s Not Me, It’s You was released under Regal/Parlophone. In the UK it was released on February 9, 2009, certified Platinum. The single The Fear was released digitally on December 9, 2009 and on January 26, 2009 it was released on CD. And it’s video was released on December 4. Then the second single was released in May 2009, and Everyone’s At It was released on October 23. And for a viral marketing campaign, Escape The Fear online game was created by Matmi.

Allen was the third most listened to artist according to website, and also as British artist in 2009. It’s Not Me, It’s You was the fourth best selling digital album of all time in the UK.

Allen in 2010 earned the Songwriters of the Year at the Ivor Nevello Awards with Greg Kurstin. She also won Best Song Musically and Literally and Most Performed Work. And in October 2010 she received an award from the U.S. music licensing organization Broadcast Music, Inc. for extensive U.S. radio airplay. In September 2009 Allen shut down her MySpace account, and on February 2, 1010 started posting in her twitter account. In February 2010 she answered a question regarding her plans to quit, despite the 2010 Brit Award she received.

In January 2010 Allen was confirmed to launch her own record label In The Name Of, signing the first act of the noise pop duo Cults, which is financially backed by Sony Music.

Lily Allen had spent her life known to be a problematic child with drug problems, and struggling to be unique apart from others. Although she had made several mistakes especially on drug related issues, she still rose from all the controversy and most significantly, she rose above herself and made a name for herself, without hiding at the back of her parent’s fame and standing in the music industry. Her total dedication to her craft had made her reach her goal despite all the trials she had gone through, and established herself as an icon in the industry.
