Sean John Combs was born on November 4, 1969 in Harlem, New York to Janice and Melvin Earl Combs, spent years growing up in Mount Vernon, New York. Combs was a football player at the Roman Catholic Mount Saint Michael Academy, winning the division title in 1986 and graduated in 1987. He would huff and puff whenever angry and this trait earned him the nickname “Puff.” Combs went to Howard University in Washington, D.C. and became an intern at New York’s Uptown Records and it was not long before “Puff” dropped out to become a top executive at Uptown.

At the City College of New York gymnasium in 1991, Combs promoted a concert headlined by Heavy D, his first taste of music management. After being let go by Uptown, he established Bad Boy Records in 1993, signing numerous artists including The Notorious B.I.G. and Craig Mack who would release major hits and help establish the label’s presence as more acts were signed including Mary J. Blidge, Usher and Lil’ Kim.

In 1997, Combs used the name “Puff Daddy” to record a commercial rap album entitled “No Way Out.” The lead single “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down” spent six weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and the album would win the 1998 Grammy Award for best rap album. Puff collaborated with Jimmy Page on “Come with Me” for the film Godzilla, produced by EPIC/Sony Soundtrax, which ranked number two in the UK.

In 2001 Combs was acquitted on gun possession and bribery charges stemming from an incident at Club New York. As a result, he changed his stage name from Puff Daddy to P. Diddy, and appeared in the film “Made” and again in Monster’s Ball alongside Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton. He worked on a gospel album “Thank you,” and was later charged with assault by Dr. Roger Mills and arrested for driving on a suspended license in Florida. He then collaborated with David Bowie for the soundtrack of “Training Day” starring Denzel Washington, and worked with Britney Spears and ‘N Sync, performing as their opening act for the N’Syncs Spring 2002 Celebrity Tour.

P. Diddy’s “Making the Band 2” in 2002, which is an MTV reality show about forming a new band for Bad Boy records flopped and he ended the series. He then ran in the New York City Marathon in 2003, raising $2,000,000 for New York children’s educational system. And on March 10, 2004 he was a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and headlined the Vote or Die campaign for the Presidential Election in 2004.

On August 16, 2005, Combs announced on “Today” that his new stage name would simply be “Diddy.” In 2005, Diddy was cast on the Carlito’s Way: Rise to Power, and played the part of Walter Lee Younger in the revival of “A Raisin in the Sun,” which was aired as the television adaptation in February 2008. He then sold his record company to Warner Music Group and one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2005 (According to Time Magazine) hosted the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards.

On October 17, 2006, the album “Press Play “was released on the Bad Boy Records label and reached number one. Diddy only rapped on the album’s first single “Come To Me” featuring Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, “Tell Me” featured Christina Aguilera was the second single, and he did sing in the album’s third single, “Last Night,” featuring Keyshia Cole.

Combs premiered his VH1 series I Want to Work for Diddy in August 2008. He then confirmed that he would be going back to the studio for his next album after the final season of “Making the Band 4.”

In the two episodes of Season 7 of CSI: Miami, Diddy starred using his real name Sean Combs. He then created a rap super group, “The Dream Team” composed of Diddy, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes and Red Café, along with rumored Fabolous, who had been recording and performing as part of Diddy-Dirty Money since 2009.

In the Get Him to the Greek comedy movie in June 2010, Diddy role-played as Sean Combs.
