Sarah Connor mp3
Sarah Connor is a German singer and reality TV star that records in English, lives in the USA but has never made it as a star outside German-speaking Europe. Despite having sold over 15 million albums since she began recording in 2001, she has had only limited success in the USA and other parts of the world.
Sarah Connor was born in Delmenhorst, Germany in June 1980 and can trace German, American, Scottish and Irish heritage. She is the oldest of six children born to advertising writer Michael Lewe, and his former model wife, Soraya. Her father’s father was born and raised in New Orleans, and it was gospel music that formed Connor’s early musical education with her participation in local church choirs. Her talent for singing was recognised early on and she was accepted at a performing arts school where she became the only person to study voice, rather than a musical instrument.
She had her first taster of the music industry life when she performed on stage in Bremen, Germany as part of the backing choir at a Michael Jackson concert. The experience prompted her to pursue a career in music and in 1998 she recorded a number of demo tapes and later sang backing vocals for dance remix single, “Last Unicorn” which had moderate success on the German charts. The following year, she signed with manager Carlo Vista who got her a record deal with George Glueck’s X-Cell Records.
Her debut album, “Green Eyed Soul” was released in November 2001. The first two singles, including “Let’s Go Back to Bed – Boy!”, a collaboration with American rapper TQ, did moderately well but it was the third single that went to the top of the German charts. “From Sarah with Love” became a hit for the singer throughout the German-speaking world and won her a Comet and ECHO Award.
She quickly released a follow-up in 2002. “Unbelievable” contained the hit single, “One Nite Stand (of Wolves and Sheep)” on which Connor collaborated with record producer and hi-hop star Wyclef Jean and was an immediate hit. A further three singles were released rapidly, including “Bounce” and “Skin on Skin” that was written by American songwriter, Diane Warren. All three did well commercially for Connor.
“Key to My Soul” was Connor’s third album and was released in November 2003 when the singer was pregnant with her first child, Tyler. “Music is the Key” was the first single from the album and provided Connor with her second German number one hit single.
The next album to come out was a compilation. “Sarah Connor” was released on the back of the success of her hit single “Bounce”, which had appeared on her second album. “Sarah Connor,” an attempt by her US record company, Sony, to cash in on the success of “Bounce” in the American market (it reached the top 20) but as Connor was on maternity leave and there was no new material to release, they produced a compilation of her previous hits. The record wasn’t a success in America and is the only album of Connor’s to be released specifically for the American market.
Connor took time out from recording after giving birth to her son, but returned in 2005 with the release of her fourth album, “Naughty But Nice”. The album itself did remarkably well in its key markets, selling 100,000 copies within two days of release. The first single from the album was the ballad “Living to Love You” which reached number one in both the German and Swiss markets. The follow-up single, “From Zero to Hero” was used as the theme song to the animated movie “Robots” for which Connor provided the voice of the character Cappy.
At the same time as the release of “Naughty But Nice”, Connor appeared in a reality TV series. “Sarah & Marc in Love” followed the pair as they settled into domestic life. Sarah had met Marc in Germany in 2003 and quickly became pregnant, later marrying him. Marc Terenzi was a member of the boy band Natural, an American group that only achieved success in Germany and the Philippines. The couple remained together for five years and had two children, finally separating in November 2008, shortly after their second reality TV series, “Sarah and Marc: Still Crazy in Love” had aired on German television.
Following her “Naughty But Nice” tour, Connor released a Christmas album, sung in English and released in December 2005. The album was mixture of English tunes and German carols, re-written in English. It reached number four on the album charts and was re-released the following year to yet more success.
Following the birth of her daughter in 2006, Connor returned to the studio to record “Soulicious”, an album of sixties and seventies Motown covers. The album was released in March 2007 and included a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” which Connor sung as a duet with American singer Ne-Yo. It received a mix response from critics but still reached the top ten in the German, Austrian and Swiss album charts.
In 2008, Connor released “Sexy as Hell” which produced the hit single “Under My Skin”. The following year, she re-recorded Ciara’s vocals on “Takin’ Back My Love” for the German market. The song was a collaboration with Enrique Iglesias and reached the top ten in the charts across Europe.
Her latest album is “Real Love” which came out in October 2010 and produced the single “Cold as Ice”, which again was a chart topper in several countries across Europe. Earlier that year, Connor was announced as one of the judges on the first season of the German version of the X Factor, joining George Glueck and musician Till Brönner. Connor mentored the 16-24 age group, although the eventual winner came from the over 25s group.
Connor is one of the best selling German female recording artists with album sales of over 15 million. Despite recording in English, living in Los Angeles and participating in an English-language movie (“Robots”), she has yet to find success outside the German-speaking world.
