Taylor Alison Swift was born on December 13, 1989 in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania to Andrea Gardner and Scott Kingsley Swift, and has a younger brother named Austin.
In fourth grade Swift won a national poetry contest, and later sang at the U.S. Open Tennis tournament. At twelve she was taught how to play guitar chords and wrote her first song Lucky You. At fourteen they relocated to Nashville, and her first major show at the Bloomsburg Fair was well-received. Swift was the youngest staff songwriter of the Sony/ATV Tree publishing house at fourteen, and after her performance at The Bluebird Café Scott Borchetta signed Swift to his Big Machine Records.
The debut single Tim McGraw was released in mid-2006 which earned Swift a win at the 2007 CMT Music Awards for Breakthrough Video of the year. On October 24, 2006 Swifts self-titled album was released which was certified multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The following year on May 15 at the Academy of Country Music Awards Swift performed the TimMcGraw. Also, in Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul 2007 tour, Swift opened for them. In October 2007, she won the Songwriter/Artist of the Year by the Nashville Songwriters Assn. Intl.. In late 2007 Swift exclusively released the album Sounds of the Season:The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection at Target. She was then nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award.
In the summer of 2008 Swift released an EP Beautiful Eyes exclusively in Wal-Mart, selling over 45,000 copies. In October 2008, a duet with Def Leppard in a show in Nashville, Tennessee led to Performance of The year and Wide Open County Video of the Year in 2009 at the CMT Music Awards.
On November 11, 2008 the album Fearless was released, with eleven out of thirteen tracks on the Hot 100. This earned Swift four Grammy Awards. The song Change was part of the 2008 Summer Olympics soundtrack for Team USA. The lead single Love Story was released on September 12, 2008, and on December 8, 2008 the second single White Horse was released, with a music video on CMT premiered on February 7, 2009.
In 2008 Swift became Bilboard’s Top Country Artist and Hot Country Songwriter, also the country’s best-selling artist and the seventh on Nielsen SoundScan Canada’s top-10 selling artists across all genres. In the Year-End Canadian Country Albums Chart, Fearless and Taylor Swift took the first and second slots. Swift then sang on October 25, 2008 at the World Series in Philadelphia.
In 2009 Swift was ranked by Forbes as the 69th-most powerful celebrity with an $18 million earning, and in 2010 as the 12th-most popular celebrity with $45 million earnings. Billboard ranked Swift as the 38th Best Artist of the 2000-10 decade.
In January 2009 Swift made announcement for her North American Fearless tour which started on April 23 in Evansville, Indiana. She appeared on Saturday Night Live and on February 8, 2009 she performed at the 51st Grammy Award with Miley Cyrus. Swift was given Album of the Year for Fearless as performer and producer. Then on April 28, 2009, she performed for free at Bishop Ireton High School.
On September 13 Swift performed at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and won an MTV Video Music Award. Later on November 11, 2009, Swift won the Country Music Association Award for Entertainer of the Year. The Fearless was the best-selling album in the U.S. in 2009, and named Artist of the Year by Billboard Magazine.
Today Was a Fairytale track was released on January 19, 2010 as a digital download on iTunes, which was featured as soundtrack for Valentine’s Day film. Then the Fearless Tour was brought to Australia in February 2010, with opening acts including Gloriana.
On October 25, 2010 the album Speak Now was released selling 1,047,000 copies in its first week alone, which Swift had written all by herself and co-produced by Nathan Chapman. Then on November 10, 2010 Swift was seen on the 44th Annual Country Music Awards. The following year, Swift visited Singapore as the first leg of her Speak Now World Tour, with Hong Kong as the last stop, before starting the European and American leg.
Taylor Swift had sold about 4,470,000 albums in 2010, in the US alone, and 9.9 million digital tracks. At a young age Swift had reached the top of her career with no signs of going down. She is admired and looked up to by millions and is very successful in her own right.
